News from our arhive: Brian Wilson Smiles For The Camera In DVD Doc |
Spaced-out pop legend and recent Grammy winner Brian Wilson will reveal the story behind his 2004 redux release of long-lost LP Smile with the release of a DVD collection on May 24. Brian Wilson Presents Smile will be a two-disc set — the first gives you more Wilson than anyone could ask for, featuring the Showtime documentary Beautiful Dreamer: Brian Wilson And The Story Of Smile, along with four different interviews with the oft-reclusive musician (one conducted by Smile's lyricist, Van Dyke Parks). Disc two contains a shimmering 5.1 Surround Sound mix of the album and outtakes from the documentary, recording studio footage and straight-from-Wilson’s-piano performances of five Smiley songs.
Meanwhile, the Beautiful Dreamer doc is set to debut at Austin, Texas, music fest South By Southwest next week. Wilson will be taking part in a sit-down panel discussion on the finishing of the unfinished Beach Boys album, along with co-writer Parks and David Leaf — he’s a BB biographer and the director/producer of the documentary, which will be screened to accompany the talk.
Wilson then has two summer tours planned, taking him throughout Europe and North America. The North American concert-goers will get to see Wilson tackle Smile in its entirety while his Euro fans will be treated to a "hits-oriented" show. The singer recently revealed to Billboard.com that he’s already writing material for a new LP that hopefully shouldn’t take decades to see the light of day. Surprisingly, the genius behind Pet Sounds thinks it will likely end up being more of a rock ’n’ roll album.
"Wouldn’t that be great?" he asked the website. "Smile was a pop album. We need rock’n’roll for sure. We just want to try and make something that makes people get out of their seats and dance." |
