News from our arhive: Sex Pistol Wants Less Swearing On British TV |
What is the world coming to when even one of the Sex Pistols can’t handle the amount of swearing on TV? Glen Matlock, former bassist for the punk band, appeared on the British television show, X-Rated: The TV Shows They Tried To Ban, calling for a stop to the swearing on British TV. Matlock, who’s now 48 years old, told the show that he thought the useless swearing on television is pathetic and as a father of two he hates it when his children hear those words on the air.
This comes from one of the original members of the band who shocked the British nation almost 30 years ago with their actions and language on TV. Their excessive swearing on a live show once caused public outcry and led to the firing of a television host. The show that Matlock was on looks at how attitudes and censorship have changed to the point where there is swearing on British television almost every night.
Matlock helped the Pistols write their biggest hits, "God Save The Queen" and "Anarchy In The U.K." He was kicked out of the band before their record was even released, though, and replaced by Sid Vicious. He did reunite with the surviving members of the band (everyone except Vicious) in 1996. |
