News from our arhive: Ja Rule Keeps His Stay In Court Short And Sweet

With so many celebrity trials lasting long, painful months, it’s nice to see Ja Rule’s day in court was just that — a day!

The rapper pled guilty to assaulting a man outside a Toronto nightclub and was slapped with a $1,500 fine. An earlier charge of assault causing bodily harm — a charge that could have seen Ja spending time in a Canadian jail — was dropped.

Ja, whose real name is Jeffery Atkins, arrived to a packed courtroom. Teenage fans lined the room where Ja’s fate awaited him. The only words they got to hear from the rapper were "Yes Sir," according to Canadian Press. A statement was read out that said on June 5 at La Rouge nightclub, Ja was provoked by a crowd about his feud with 50 Cent. In the statement, Ja admits to punching someone as he left the club.

Justice W.P. Bassel apologized to Ja for the rude manner that Torontonians treated him and said that the rapper's rep would unfairly suffer due to backlash from the incident. Outside Old City Hall, Ja apologized to Torontonians for his behaviour. Ja Rule recently wrapped up a headlining gig on the Roc Tha Block tour and now has some time off until a round of shows in Germany at the end of March.
