News from our arhive: Rap Star Capone Called To Testify Against Lil Kim |
As Lil Kim’s trial gets underway it seems that the list of witnesses will be a who’s who of the rap world — although it won't reach anywhere near the star power of Michael Jackson’s witness list. On Tuesday, rapper Capone, members of Junior M.A.F.I.A. and Kim’s former manager Damien Butler were all added to the prosecutor’s list of witnesses who will testify against her in court. The rapper was present in the courtroom as the details of her trial were unspooled.
During opening statements, prosecution attorney Daniel Gitner claimed that Kim and her assistant, Monique Dopwell, lied about witnessing Butler and former bodyguard Suif Jackson open fire during a shootout outside of New York’s Hot 97 radio station. Gitner says there is video footage from the station showing the girls leave the building with Butler and Jackson. Kim’s lawyer, Mel Sachs, claims the rapper was thrown to the ground and pushed into her limo — therefore she didn’t see what happened.
This whole incident occurred on February 25, 2001 and both Jackson and Butler have since pled guilty to firing guns. The melee was sparked by the bad blood between Kim and rival rapper Foxy Brown after Brown dissed Kim in a song. Kim was charged with perjury and obstruction of justice back in April of last year. She faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted. |
