News from our arhive: Gorillaz Announce The Details Of Demon Days |
Prozzak proved a band didn't actually have to exist to become a success. The Gorillaz took it to the next level and became fictional international superstars. We told you last month the band's new album, Demon Days, would be released on May 24. Now the band have released full details of their sophomore album. The first single, "Feel Good Inc.," features De La Soul. Delving even deeper in the annals of hip-hop history, the song "Kids With Guns" uses a sample of Salt-N-Pepa's insanely popular '90s hit "Push It."
Aside from De La, the Gorillaz's new record has a host of weird and wonderful guest appearances throughout. Blondie's Deborah Harry, Ike Turner, Happy Mondays' frontman Shaun Ryder and critically acclaimed rapper MF Doom all appear on Demon Days. The London Community Gospel Choir is featured on the record's title track and actor Dennis Hopper does a spoken-word performance on "Fire Coming Out Of A Monkey's Head."
The cartoon group, comprised of Noodle, Murdoc, 2-D and Russell, are the creation of Blur's Damon Albarn and Tank Girl illustrator Jamie Hewlett. The band's self-titled debut was an unexpected success after the single "Clint Eastwood" ended up becoming a hit single.
One of the major changes on the new album is that Dan The Automator, one of the group's founders and producer of most of the music for the first album, is no longer contributing to the project. Instead, Demon Days is produced by Albarn and Danger Mouse, best known for The Grey Album — a mash-up of The Beatles' White Album and Jay-Z's Black Album.
Here's the track list for Demon Days:
